Biodegradable Carriers
At the Rainbow Bag Company we believe in green! As a result we are heavily promoting our range of biodegradable carriers to new and existing customers.
Why Biodegradable? Biodegradable is the only option where the bag completely breaks down so NOTHING is left. Degradable bags break down into smaller fragments, and this is where the process then ends. With biodegradable bags, these smaller pieces are then reduced to nothing more than water, bio-mass & CO2.
So how long does this process take and when does it start? Don’t worry, on delivery of the product you won’t find an empty box, they don’t biodegrade that easily! The 1st stage of the process is “mechanical stress”, a phrase used to describe usage. Rest assured your customer can carry home their purchase without the bag disappearing before their eyes! The bag will then be introduced to UV light, possibly water and this is when the process starts to kick in. By this stage the bag will have probably found its way to landfill. All that heat, moisture and organisms found in the ground really start doing some damage now and the bag comes under attack from all sides. Over the course of the next 18-24 months the bag will be completely eradicated.
What about recycled bags, are they not better for the environment? Not if they’re not biodegradable. You can recycle a bag for as long as possible but it will eventually find it’s way to landfill. Once it’s there it won’t recycle itself!
Surely paper is the better option? Did you know paper takes 10 times as much energy to produce than plastic? Papers volume is far greater than that of plastic, we would need between 10-15 more vehicle trips to deliver all the bags we sell a year if everyone went to paper.
So how much does this cost? Plastic bags are far cheaper than their paper equivalent. You can provide an environmentally friendly product to your customer which is affordable to yourself.
